Shell – Troll Gas Gravity Based Structure
Structural engineer responsible for the conceptual design of  buoyancy tanks, including the support arms, embedment plates and support points.
The buoyancy tanks were 6m diameter 32m long connected to the concrete I beam tying the four columns  at mid way. The tanks were required to reduce the platform draft so it could clear the seabed along the shallow part of the route during tow.  The work entailed the design of the tanks, installation aids, interfacing with the marine operations and civil disciplines to define the installation and removal procedures.
After topsides weight reduction, the tanks were no longer required, I designed pancake platforms within the GBS shafts.
